local chinese women.

i realized something about local chinese women. though mostly annoying when you walk by them in the subway and streets, when you know them personally and talk to them one on one, they are quite "re xin" or warm hearted, lively, happy, pleasant and nice. after my work's end of year BBQ, we went to happy hour at H Cafe. i had an overpriced and not so good pina colada. There, i spoke casually to many of the local women that work as program assistants and administrators in our company. i noticed they don't open up to non-local chinese as much as local ones b/c they were gregariously chatting with other local employees but i don't see them do that very much with the american employees. part of it must be the language barrier. but once i got myself into their little cliques, i began having normal casual conversations with them and found them to be quite funny, pleasant and animated. it helps that i can at least speak some chinese. they aren't that annoying, they're very engaging and they're quite normal. just like my 2 lang partners. i have a feeling many of my stereotypes will be dispelled when i leave this place, quite happily, i might add.
